Mg Overview
The pride of the UK, Morris Garages was founded in Oxford, England, in 1924 by Cecil Kimber, a car designer. From the outset, the automaker became famous for making sporty cars, especially MG 14/28 - a super sports car.
The company has come a long way since then in terms of its models, their body types, engine technologies and more. It now makes hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs, including EVs.
In 2007, the company’s ownership was passed onto Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), a Chinese auto manufacturer.
MG Pakistan
MG came to Pakistan in 2020 with a compact SUV - MG HS. Javed Afridi’s JW-ZES Group is the local partner of MG in Pakistan. In Pakistan, the company enjoys the greenfield status under Automotive Development Policy 2016-21.
Models
In Pakistan, the following models have been launched:
MG HS - MG HS is an SUV. It comes with a 1.5L GDI turbocharged engine which produces 160hp and 250 Nm of torque. This car is packed with safety and comfort features and therefore ever since its launch in Pakistan, its sales have gone through the roof.
MG ZS - A compact SUV introduced by MG, it is loaded with technology. Its design is based on principles of exclusivity, agility and sensuality. Just like HS, ZS is packed with safety and comfort features and has a 1.5L engine.
MG ZS EV - As the name suggests, this is the electric variant of MG ZS. It was launched in Pakistan in 2021. This SUV comes equipped with a 44.5 kWh, water-cooled lithium-ion battery, producing 105kW of power and 353 Nm of torque. The company claims this car does around 320 km on a fully charged battery.
New MG ZS EV - A newer and better version of MG ZS EV, this SUV does around 429 Km in a single charge. It comes equipped with a 51.1 kWh lithium-ion battery. With a 7kW domestic charger, the battery gets fully charged in 8-10 hours.
MG HS PHEV - Neither completely traditional nor electric, MG HS PHEV is a hybrid plug in SUV. It comes equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine, a liquid lithium ion battery and a permanent magnet synchronous motor. Some of the highlights of this powerful SUV are: 189 kW of power, 370 Nm of torque, 0-100 Km/hr in 7.1 seconds, etc.
MG is planning to launch other cars in Pakistan in future as well.
