Description
The tabla is a pair of hand-played drums originating from India, highly regarded for its versatility and rhythmic complexity. It is a central instrument in Indian classical music and is also used in devotional, folk, and contemporary music. The tabla consists of two drums:
Dayan (Right Drum):
Made of wood, typically tuned to the tonic note of the performance.
Produces higher-pitched sounds.
Bayan (Left Drum):
Larger, made of metal (e. g. , brass or copper) or clay.
Produces deep, resonant bass tones.
Each drum is played with fingers and palms, creating a wide variety of sounds and tones. The tabla is known for its intricate rhythmic patterns, known as tala, and its ability to complement both melodic and rhythmic compositions.
