Work as a Quantity Surveyor As a Quantity Surveyor, my role focuses on managing the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects, ensuring cost-effective and timely delivery while maintaining high standards of quality. I am responsible for the following core activities: Cost Estimation and Budgeting: Preparing detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities, and cost plans based on project drawings and specifications. Developing and managing project budgets, tracking expenditure, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Tendering and Procurement: Preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and advising on the selection of contractors and suppliers. Negotiating contracts and prices with vendors and subcontractors to achieve the best value for the client. Contract Management: Administering contracts, ensuring compliance with terms, and managing variations, claims, and dispute resolutions. Monitoring project progress, ensuring that timelines and costs are adhered to, and preparing progress reports. Cost Control and Financial Monitoring: Tracking project costs against budgets and providing regular financial reports to clients and senior management. Conducting value engineering exercises to reduce costs without compromising quality or scope. Site Visits and Inspections: Conducting site visits to assess project progress and ensure that work is being completed in accordance with the contract. Inspecting the quality of work, materials, and construction methods to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations. Risk Management and Reporting: Identifying potential project risks (financial, technical, legal) and providing recommendations for mitigation. Maintaining thorough documentation and record-keeping of contracts, variations, and other financial transactions. Client Liaison: Acting as the primary point of contact between clients, contractors, architects, and engineers to ensure clear communication and resolve any issues that arise during the project lifecycle. Post-Construction Activities: Finalizing accounts and preparing financial closeout reports for clients and stakeholders after project completion. Advising clients on future maintenance, warranties, and the lifecycle costs of the project. Through this work, I’ve developed a strong understanding of construction processes, financial management, and contract law, alongside excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills. My expertise in cost control and value engineering has consistently contributed to the successful and profitable delivery of projects, both large and small.
