Description
The Palestinian keffiyeh is a traditional Middle Eastern headdress, commonly associated with Palestinian heritage and resistance. It is typically a square-shaped scarf, traditionally in black and white colors, though other variations exist. The keffiyeh is characterized by its distinctive woven patterns:
• Fishnet or honeycomb pattern – Symbolizes resilience and connection to the land.
• Bold black lines – Represent historical trade routes or the strength of the people.
• Olive leaves or chain-like patterns – Signify perseverance and freedom.
Originally worn by farmers and Bedouins to protect against the sun and sand, the keffiyeh became a national symbol during the Palestinian resistance movements, especially in the 20th century. It is often draped over the shoulders or wrapped around the head and is now worn worldwide as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
