Description
The Optima M16 typewriter, Berlin Germany was manufactured at a time when the Optima production facilities were already under the control of VEB Robotron, the combine responsible for most office equipment in socialist Germany.
In order to reduce the weight of the typewriter, a decision was made to use an even larger amount of plastic parts, which is why nowadays the plastic parts of the Optima M16 have changed from their original white appearance to yellow. Mechanically identical to its predecessor, the Optimai M14, the M16 model differs from it more visually - due to the extensive use of plastic, the color scheme has changed and the model was characterized by a bluish coloring of metal parts with light white plastic parts together with dark-gray keys.
The typewriter was offered in several sizes, from narrow, similar in width to the typewriter itself, to huge ones, intended for writing large tables. It is possible to create increased spaces between letters, there is a decimal tab, as well as a special key to release stuck hammers. Of course, it is also possible to switch colors if supported by a 16mm ink ribbon.
The M16 model was produced from approximately 1965 to 1977.
