A smoke detector is a device designed to sense the presence of smoke, typically as an early warning of a fire. There are two primary types of smoke detectors:
Ionization Smoke Detectors:
Effective at detecting fast-flaming fires.
Use a small amount of radioactive material to create an ionization chamber that triggers the alarm when smoke particles disrupt the current.
Photoelectric Smoke Detectors:
Better at detecting slow, smoldering fires.
Use a light source and a sensor; the alarm is triggered when smoke scatters the light beam.
Some modern smoke detectors combine both technologies (dual-sensor) for more comprehensive protection. Advanced models may also include carbon monoxide detection, battery backups, and smart connectivity for integration with home automation systems.
