Job Summary:
The Farm Manager will be responsible for overseeing all daily dairy farm operations, including feeding, animal care, milk quality and production, and maintaining accurate operational and breeding records. The role also involves confidently managing the farm team, ensuring high performance, and implementing established internal farm policies. The ideal candidate must hold a DVM license, be registered with PVMC, and have at least 14 years of professional experience. Strong organizational skills, effective team leadership, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
• The Farm Manager will be responsible for overseeing all daily dairy operations, including herd management, young stock care, feeding, breeding, and making health-related decisions. This includes preparing TMR accurately and implementing feed safety procedures for different animal groups.
• Managing the farm team involves onboarding and training new staff for improved future performance. The Farm Manager will also coordinate forage production, ensuring timely updates on forage needs and consumption.
• Maintaining cow and calf health and safety is critical, with readiness for emergencies. Accurate record-keeping is essential, including maintaining up-to-date cow cards with precise data and must be expert in fresh cow caring and managing.
• The Farm Manager must be skilled in artificial insemination and focused on improving animal productivity. They should be proficient in pregnancy diagnosis, both manually at 40 days and using ultrasound at 30 days, as well as administering injections through IM, IV, and SC routes. Strong Excel skills and proficiency in dairy management software are required to maintain updated records.
• Expertise in surgeries such as LDA, RDA, C-sections, and hernia repairs in calves is necessary, along with the ability to manage and treat conditions like mastitis and lameness effectively. The Farm Manager will oversee cow and calf vaccinations, including emergency vaccinations when needed.
• Minimizing open days after calving and ensuring insemination within 100 days of lactation are key responsibilities. Proficiency in feed synchronization programs and expertise in selling milk to third-party buyers according to industry protocols are required.
• The Farm Manager must also be skilled in milk testing, including determining fat content, LR, and TS levels.
• Close monitoring of milking parlor procedures is essential to ensure resource-efficient operations, guiding the team to maintain high production levels while emphasizing animal care during milking.
• A deep understanding of animal health, particularly in diagnosing and treating diseases in calves and cows, is crucial. Additionally, specialized experience in suckling weaning and dehorning is expected.
Qualifications:
• Must hold a valid DVM license and should be registered with PVMC.
• At least have 14 years of professional experience or more will be preferable.
• Must possess strong organizational skills.
